Associate Professor or Assistant Professor or Assistant in the Field of Intermedia Art

The Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts and Music at the University of Ostrava announces a selection procedure for the position of:

  • Associate Professor or Assistant Professor or Assistant in the field of Intermedia Art

Position Title:

  • Associate Professor / Assistant Professor / Assistant with a focus on Intermedia Art, working within the Studio of Video – Multimedia – Performance
  • Type of systematized position: Associate Professor / Assistant Professor / Assistant

Job Description:

Assistant Professors and Assistants participate in teaching in bachelor's and master's degree programs (including supervision and review of final theses). They are actively involved in creative activities. Furthermore, they contribute to the university's third mission, especially through the popularization of creative work, administrative tasks related to their activities, and participation in university self-governance. Assistants are expected to actively pursue a third-cycle university degree.

In addition to the above, Associate Professors also teach in doctoral study programs (including supervision and review of dissertations) and contribute to the development of these programs. They serve as supervisors in doctoral programs and are actively involved in creative activities, particularly by undertaking complex creative tasks of fundamental importance to the field. They are exceptionally active in artistic work of national significance.

Teaching within the Studio of Video – Multimedia – Performance shapes the direction of the department, defines its conceptual focus, and significantly contributes to fulfilling intermediality within the Department of Intermedia. It also plays a key role in fostering a healthy artistic and educational environment that reflects contemporary phenomena and seeks to communicate and engage with them meaningfully.

International Research Profile of the Candidate:

  • R3 – Established / R2 – Recognized / R1 – First Stage

Expected Workload:

  • Full-time (1.0 FTE)

Required Qualifications and Other Requirements:

  • Active experience in the field of contemporary art, either from an artistic or theoretical perspective
  • A doctoral degree in the arts, or current progress toward one, or planned enrollment in a doctoral or habilitation procedure; for the position of Associate Professor, proof of appointment as Associate Professor is required (appointments from outside the Czech Republic must be recognized in accordance with applicable Czech regulations or relevant international agreements)
  • Czech language proficiency at level C2
  • English language proficiency at level B2

Expected Start Date:

  • October/November 2025, or as agreed

  • According to the Internal Wage Regulations of the University of Ostrava

Selection Procedure:

The first round will be conducted without the personal presence of candidates, based on the evaluation of submitted materials by the selection committee.

The second round will take the form of a personal interview with the selection committee (end of September 2025).

The Dean of the Faculty reserves the right to invite only selected candidates for an interview and also the right not to select any candidate. The Dean may also cancel or repeat the selection procedure.
