Anotation | This doctoral research project on the recording of the complete clarinet works of Pierre Boulez is an exceptional and unique contribution to the interpretation and exploration of 20th century modern music, especially in 2025, the 100th anniversary of his birth. Boulez's clarinet output includes key works that highlight his interest in combining the clarinet with electronic elements and structuralist compositional techniques. Key works include Dialogue de l'ombre double, which uses the clarinet and a pre-recorded electronic part to create an interactive space where the music reflects on the interplay of spatial and temporal relationships between the live instrument and the recording. Then Domaines, which represent a combination of solo clarinet and ensemble elements, expressing the culmination of complex serialist structures. Given the unique nature of Boulez's work with the clarinet and his innovative approach to composition within modern music, this project is a significant contribution to both clarinetists, specialists in contemporary music, and the wider professional community. The recordings will serve as a practical output of my dissertation research, which explores Boulez's aesthetics in relation to clarinet literature and leads to its subsequent interpretation. The project thus fulfills the desired aim of my research on several levels, bringing new interpretations of Boulez's work specifically in the context of this important anniversary and representing his legacy on an international level. The project will require high-quality technical equipment for working with electronic music, as well as cooperation with experts for the realization of specific recordings of contemporary repertoire, space for the realization of recordings, including other items such as production costs, promotion, and editorial items. This project has enormous potential for the artistic environment and can be an important connecting element between Central and Western European culture. |
