Projects and activities in internationalisation at home
1. 1. 2022
Project "International students in Czech families / Dive into the (extra)ordinary". Nominated for the Award of DZS 2023 (Czech National Agency for International Education and Research). The project is based on connecting foreign students of the University of Ostrava with pupils of selected schools and their families. Together, they participate in extracurricular meetings and activities in a foreign language, in an informal learning setting. The pupils, their families and foreign students voluntarily meet in a real environment of a cultural diversity and thereby create an opportunity for intercultural communication. As a result, their intercultural competence is strengthened. The philosophy and meaning of the project is reflected in the context of the social-scientific discourse, in the realm of cultural ethnocentrism and ethnorelativism. The constructivist view of Bennett´s Developmental Model of Intercultural Sensitivity (DMIS) serves here as a supporting argument for the importance of the societal shift towards ethnorelativism. In the broader context of globalization, this shift is supported by international education and the adaptation process of internationalization. The project is ongoing, web and mobile app is currently under development.
