On 1st August 2007, the Institute of Art Studies was transformed into the University of Ostrava’s new Faculty of Fine Arts.
The new Faculty has given the University a significant new dimension and extended the spectrum of degree programmes that can be studied. The Faculty is unique within the Czech Republic as it offers a degree programme in Musical Arts – this programme is not available at any other Czech universities. The integration of graphic (art) and musical study programmes offers considerable scope for joint artistic events and projects.
The Faculty of Fine Arts introduced itself in October 2007 on the Academic Day of the University of Ostrava, with a performance by the Faculty Symphony Orchestra and an exhibition of the work of students of the Faculty. It is a self-confident new faculty which will help to intensify the promotion of the University as a whole.
